The project
A multi-utility company in central Italy, specialized in integrated waste management, needed to enhance the traceability and certification of data related to waste sorting and CO₂ reduction, while also incentivizing virtuous behavior among citizens.
KNOBS developed a Proof of Concept (PoC) based on blockchain notarization of data collected from smart bins, enabling transparent and immutable tracking of each disposal. The system is designed to provide automatic certification of CO₂ reductions, paving the way for the issuance of carbon credits.
The PoC also lays the groundwork for a future Web3 reward program, where citizens who adopt sustainable waste-sorting practices can receive digital incentives, supporting ESG goals and circular economy strategies.
